At Epico,  we offer jewelry that fits well into the 2020 modern life. Our goal is to always improve the quality of every piece that we design and make. We believe that manufacturing is a sacred process. We focus on making every day essentials out of luxury materials. We push the envelope from our studio in Edmonton.

Our ethical design approach to demi-fine jewellery involves exclusively using high-quality enduring materials from sterling silver, stainless steel & gold filled, to semi-precious natural healing stones, pearls & crystals. The result? Everyday pieces with a more accessible price point and without the sacrifice in quality.

Our Metals

Stainless Steel

Known for being highly resistant to corrosion, strong yet easy to work with, and hypoallergenic, stainless steel is a popular metal in the jewelry industry. With its resistance to rust, oxidation, and discoloration, this corrosion-resistant alloy is ideal for long-lasting jewelry designs.

It's also unplated and will not fade or chip over time. This metal is the best suggestion for those living in high-humidity locations, as the metal will keep from rusting much longer than other metals. Jewelry made with these findings will endure heavy wear longer than those made with carbon steel and softer base metals.

Care

Although stainless steel jewelry doesn’t tarnish or corrode and doesn’t require special care, it can scratch. That’s why you should wear and store your pieces in a way that minimizes any contact with other items that can damage your stainless steel jewelry. If your jewelry does get scratched, you can always have it professionally polished by a jeweller. Store your stainless-steel pieces separately from jewelry made of other metals. It is best if you keep your stainless-steel items in individual bags such as your Epico velvet pouch.

Stainless steel jewelry is pretty easy to clean. Simply follow these steps:

1. Pour some warm water in a small bowl, and add some mild dishwashing soap.

2. Dip a soft, lint-free cloth in the soapy water, and then gently wipe the stainless steel jewelry with the damp cloth until the piece is clean. When cleaning it, rub the item along its polish lines.

3. Wipe the remaining soap off your jewelry using a moist cloth dipped in clean water.

4. Dry the jewelry well with a clean towel, and then leave your pieces to air dry.

After your stainless steel jewelry is clean, you can use a jewelry polish or a polishing cloth to shine it.

Gold Filled

Gold-filled is an actual layer of gold-pressure bonded to another metal. Gold-filled is not to be confused with gold plating as filled literally has 100% more gold than gold plating. Gold-filled is much more valuable, and tarnish resistant. It does not flake off, rub off or turn colours. as a matter of fact, anyone who can wear gold can wear gold filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewelry. Gold-filled items are regulated by the government and in the jewelry industry, the quantity of gold must be at least 1/20 by weight of the total product.

Care

Gold-filled jewelry is far more durable than gold plated jewelry but it will age at different rates depending on how you treat it. Wearing it on the beach for a week and slathering it in sun cream is not wise; keeping it away from harsh substances and giving it a clean every now and again is! After each wear, gently remove makeup and oils from your skin by wiping with a soft cloth, like a flannel or lens cloth. If you know you've been sweaty that day or the piece might have product on it (especially sunscreen!), it would be great to give it a quick rinse in lukewarm water and dry it with a soft cloth. Also, taking your jewelry off to sleep will do a great deal to help it last longer.

The number one best way to store your gold-filled jewelry so it lasts is in something airtight. (Less airflow = less chance for any chemical reactions that cause tarnish!) Ideally, our little Epico velvet pouch works best—they're compact, and we know they don't contain any chemicals that cause tarnish.

Warning: Never use toothpaste or baking soda to clean gold-filled jewelry. The chemicals can be too abrasive. Never wear your jewelry when your body is in contact with water, be it in the swimming pool, while doing the dishes or gardening. Chemical reactions with chlorine and other elements can lead to tarnishing.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver jewelry is durable. When taken care of correctly, sterling silver jewelry can last you a lifetime. Savvy sterling silver owners know that their pieces can look exactly the same even after forty years! True 925 sterling silver is not cheap. The extra cost is more than worth it for the quality and lifetime value of the jewelry. Some of your well-made pieces may even become family heirlooms in the future.

People who are allergic to metals such as nickel and or brass can wear sterling silver jewelry without much worry. This is especially important for accessories like earrings -- you can wear them without fear that a piercing will get infected. Silver is notorious for its habit of tarnishing. Fresh Silver has a bright-metallic-white color, but almost invariably turns yellowish to blackish upon continuous exposure to air. This is caused by a chemical reaction of the silver to sulfur compounds present in the atmosphere. The tarnished silver can easily be restored to its original color by using tarnish-removing chemicals that are readily available.

Care

Sterling silver, like other precious metal alloys, can oxidize with time. But properly maintained silver jewelry improves with age and develops a lush patina. Treat your silver well, care for it properly and it will reward you with long life and a lustrous look.

· Clean your silver jewelry with a mild soap and water solution, allowing the water to bead up, and then patting dry with a soft cloth. For more stubborn dirt, use a cleaner designed for silver use.

· Store your silver in a cool, dry place, preferably in a tarnish-preventive bag or wrapped in a soft piece of felt or cloth.

· Store pieces individually so that they don’t knock together and scratch.

· Do not rub silver with anything other than a polishing cloth. Tissue paper or paper towels can cause scratches because of the fibers in these products.

· Make sure your silver is not exposed to air and light during storage – this can cause silver to tarnish.

· Don’t wear sterling silver in chlorinated water or when working with household chemicals.

· To remove any tarnish the simple use of a special Silver Dip or rubbing with a Silver Cloth is all that is required to renew the brilliance and shine.

Pearls

We use cultured or farmed pearls from oysters and freshwater mussels that we carefully select for our pieces. Pearls are sensitive in nature, so don’t forget to treat them with love.

Care

Make sure they are the last thing you put on before going out and the first thing you take off when you come home. Avoid direct contact with chemicals found in perfume or other cosmetics.

Gemstones

All of our gemstones are genuine mineral stones, highly valued for their beauty, longevity, and rarity. We use an array of precious and semi-precious stones, from sapphires to Aquamarines. These are either round shaped stones, cabochon stones that are cut like smooth domes or faceted stones which are the flat faces on geometric shapes.

Care

To keep gemstones clean and shiny, use warm soapy water and a soft brush. Avoid chemicals or excessive temperatures when cleaning.
